Just noticed this change.
<< Thread Modifed January 15 at 5:47PM >>
The first place ranked script writer at the end of the year can select this mug that includes the FanStory logo.
Did anyone else see this?
Poetry -The top 10
Short stories - The top five
Novels - The topo five
Scripts- Only the first place (one)
Is this the last year for the Script category? They are already not granted consideration for Seals. Have to get 7 reviews to get on the front page, whereas books and prose have only five. Yes, scripts are lumped with stories in all other things (monthlies, Certificates)
RE: Just noticed this change.
It's been going this way for years. I post very little these days, and this is one of the main reasons.
The scripts have never been popular. They're not that exciting or easy to read. It's not a form that really lends itself to a site like this. Most aren't actual scripts anyway.
Most of the 'stories' are rehashes, or not actual stories at all. Most follow variations on the same thing over and over again.
I remember working really hard for my ranking in the past and now to get shut out by game-players and poorly constructed vignettes is soul-crushing but that seems to be what folk want. And let's not mention AI enhancement....

Speaking of AI enhancement I have come across at least two members of this site that had sudden radical changes in writing style. I ran their stuff through an AI checker and they came back with all the hallmarks of AI. Not enhancement, but completely written by. This isn't specifically a fan story problem, but a problem in this brave New World. And I have no clue what to do about it.
RE: Just noticed this change.
The only reason I see to block a reader on the site is over AI or low-quality reviews. I've always liked to communicate directly with reviewers. FanStory prohibits AI content in the site's terms and conditions:
What constitutes AI content has been evolving in the last two years, and word processors now leverage AI in their editing processes. Many FanStory users currently use software that includes the use of AI to generate images, audio, or video for supplementary content to accompany text. This may be a majority of members now, and it would be tough for folks to go back, when AI images can be highly creative and customized to a writing piece. Indeed, FanStory itself now offers an AI image generator, suggesting that AI images are considered permissible. This is a writing site, and I have always interpreted the prohibition of "AI content" here as using software to generate TEXT in any form. It may be in the interest of the site to weigh in.
Although going overboard with the citations makes one stick out conspicuously in the blind contests, my suggestion would be to cite the origins of software-generated images with watermarks, or in the author notes. This can make one stick out in blind contests though.

I occasionally use AI to generate illustrations because, as you mention, they are customisable. They're often grotesque as well, but seem to be improving. I've assumed this is okay because FS has made a generator available onsite. Most of my images are photographs I took myself, but I also occasionally use pics from Pixabay, The Graphics Fairy and Wiki Commons. I'll try to remember to cite them.
