Snow blankets the land; a memory of beauty and awe.
Blanketed in You
The days of summer had slipped away, but I had not mourned their passing--not when your arms are my blankets, and our bed becomes a haven from the cold.
My toes, always the first to succumb to the season's chill, found warmth pressed against yours--your toes felt like a sunny July day. We stayed wrapped together beneath the covers, while the storm whispered against the windows. You held me close, and even as the wind howled, I felt like I was standing barefoot on a tropical shore--safe in this place your love built for me.
You left the bed only to tend to the fire, and as you threw more logs into the hearth, the glow flickered across your skin. I watched, spellbound--your body haloed in amber, my heart yearning for you--my eyes couldn't look away. When you returned, I pulled you back under the covers with me. This--this--was my heaven! You and me hiding in a cocoon in a world of our own.
Later that morning, we stepped out into a world of white, and the quietness was sacred. The pine trees were covered with fluffy blankets of snow, and the cloudless blue sky stretched forever above us--the same color as your sparkling eyes, only yours were filled with love for me.
The cold had decorated our home in chandeliers of ice, each icicle catching the light like fragile crystal. I was lost in the magic, still staring at the beauty the frosty air had created, when you came up behind me with a smile that thawed my heart. Hidden behind your back was a miracle. You held out several crimson roses that were still bright and alive. You handed them to me without words, and it felt like winter itself had grown them just for me.
And in that moment, I knew I would never long for spring--not when love exists right here, in this cold wondrous place, in the strength and warmth of your hands, and in the life we live, being blanketed in each other's arms.
