a hopeful poem

Challenging my crippled fingers

by Jesse James Doty

While gently cradling

the fingers of my right hand,

I carefully construct

an intentionally decisive plan.

Gingerly holding a pen to paper,

the wrinkled hand,

makes a creative stand

in the shifting sand.

Love, nurturing, and a

hardworking pledge,

will help crippled fingers

return my writers’ edge.

My hands dance on

the keyboards,

like musical keys,

But ‘Liberace,’ I will never be.

Telling myself how these

fingers will heal,

correctly accomplishes the goal

That seals the deal.
