Wee poem
Butterflies
From a clutch of eggs
a bunch of caterpillars hatch
Some resemble twigs,
others bright candy
however, all make my granny
very cranky
because they're always extra hungry
and her green patch
is constantly under attack
Left to grow they will undergo
the miracle of metamorphosis
and become beautiful butterflies.
Seemingly weightless
like floating feathers,
all four wings move together.
Their whimsical flight delights
as they search for nectar,
the mythical ambrosia
of the Greek gods.
Their multi-vibrant hues
and marked black veins
recall precious stained glass panes
in a church.
These living masterpieces
often become pinned showpieces
by hobbyist enthusiasts
who spend hours in their search.
A butterfly's
lifespan is a mere few weeks
in which it seeks
to mate so its life cycle regenerates.
