Most people, when they think of Indiana, think of it as a flyover state with not much going on. However, Indiana has many celebrities born and raised. Here are some of the most popular people from Indiana.
Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five were born and raised in Gary, Indiana. They were active as a group from 1966 until 1990. They were inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. You can still visit the house Michael was born in at Gary, Indiana.
James Dean was born in Marion, Indiana and raised on a farm in Fairmount, Indiana. He only made three movies but became a Hollywood icon at the young age of 24. He was killed in an auto accident in 1955 and is buried in Fairmount, Indiana.
Jim Davis might be one of the most famous cartoonists ever. He too was born in Marion, Indiana. He was famous for his creation of Garfield the cat. His comics first debuted in 1978 and are found in almost every newspaper in the world. Davis is a perfect example of how creative "Hoosiers' really are.
Dean Norris was born in South Bend, Indiana. He has been seen in many different television shows, but he is most famous for his portrayal of DEA agent Hank Schrader on AMC's "Breaking Bad." He also starred on many television shows as well and provided his smooth voice for Disney characters in Disney films such as the "Aristocats,"and as Meadowlark Lemon in the "Harlem Globetrotters" animated television series, Jazz the Autobot in "The Transformers," and many more.
David Lee Roth was born in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1955. He is best known as the iconic lead singer in the band Van Halen. He formed with brothers Alex and Eddie Van Halen in Los Angeles. Their first album sold two million copies.
John Mellencamp was born in Seymour, Indiana, in 1951. He is a famous musician and painter. He has won a Grammy, a Billboard Century Award and the Woody Guthrie Award.
