Make A Difference

by Jesse James Doty

I think we can all attest to the fact that things are getting out of hand in our country. What we apparently don’t agree on is how.

One thing is for certain: all of us must take part in making a difference when it comes to saving our democracy.

Our Constitutional rights allow us to peacefully protest when it is needed. Let’s face it. Not all of us are protesting kind of people, yet there are many other ways we can make a difference.

Writing letters to our congressional leaders, or letters to the editors in our local newspapers and magazines. Both are important ways we can make a difference.

No matter what side you are on, let your voice be heard above the blare of apathy. We need to care. We need to step up and voice our opinion.

Walking away and shaking our heads in dismay, saying there is nothing we can do about it, is not a viable option.

We love our country. Be proud and stand up for our country.

One fine example of making a difference was in my local newspaper the other day. A well-known law firm called “PETRUSHA LAW” donated $5000 to a local mental health organization called “NAMI”. Now they made a difference.

Be creative. Put your heads together and come up with inventive ways to make your collective voices heard.

Or do it alone. Just do it. It will help you to feel better about yourself and each other.

Making a difference can be as simple as having a chat with your neighbor. Share your feelings. Embrace your lives to the fullest. You both will feel better. One act of kindness or generosity could be the ‘Tipping Point’ for a big change.

Find your unique way to make a difference. It could be extremely beneficial for you and your country.
