A Funny Story About A Man Writing A Letter

Kentucky Son Writing a Letter

by Harry Craft

Dear Kentucky Mom

I got your letter the other day from the hollers of Kentucky. I read it fast because I know you wrote it slowly. I was sorry to hear about my friends who drown when they could not get the tailgate down. Those dern things are hard to open under water. They should have took the bolts off the door.

I moved into my new apartment, and they put the mail in these metal boxes with slots. I don’t know why they lock the boxes. I could not get my hand in there to get my mail, so, I used a crowbar and opened the box. Now it don’t shut so good, but my mail stays dry.

I know you wanted me to go back to school. But shucks, that don’t make no never mind. You know I ain’t got no book learnin anyhow! I was never too good with paper, except when it comes to lightin fires.

I got a job as a mechanic at the car shop. I only worked there for three hours. I put this thang they call an alternator on backwards I guess and the boss said he did not need me anymore. I guess they got too many mechanics. It’s a dern shame I have a skill and can’t use it.

It rained here four times this week, one hour this morning and then one hour at noon and one hour afternoon and one hour tonight. I went to get my newspaper and they had this thang called a flash flood and it carried it to the next county. I guess I will have to read it when the water goes down. I shor hope I can find it.

Well mom I have to quit writin now my pin don’t work no more

Yer son
