Haika No Renga

Two Town Gossips

by Debi Pick Marquette

they're the town gossips

with the juiciest details:

who was not in church

who is having an affair

they spread everything they hear

the last rumor they heard was

two from church had mouth fungus

these two town gossips

could not wait to share this with

everyone they saw

'till they met a man

Who asked what they're laughing at

he chuckled and said

"I love how you both can laugh

since this rumor's about you"

Haikai no renga (means playful), is a Japanese Poetic form of linked verse that evolved into haiku. It originated in the 16th century.. It blends humor, wit, and playful wordplay into the verses. Haikai no renga sessions, often held during social gatherings, allowed poets to engage in lighthearted exchanges and witty banter. You can stop here or keep adding the same pattern stanzas.

EXAMPLE BY GYPSY BLUE ROSE © COPYRIGHT

the astrologer’s
wife bends over to pull weeds
showing her full moon
husband leaves his telescope
to pull her down on the ground

the lustful horny husband
plays with voluptuous wife
on vegetable bed
destroying tomato plants
and sweet round melons

deeply satisfied
they pick up their muddy selves
then they go inside
after taking cold showers
back to monotonous life
