A chapter in the book I Survived

Shared Survival

by davisr (Rhonda)

Background
This book was started as a way for people on this site to tell stories from their past about things they have survived. It ended up being a way for me to update my friends on my husband, Wayne.
Hi,

My name is Kylie. My Mamaw Rhonda has a lot of friends on here. Last time I wrote you, my Papa Wayne had a seizure on Christmas morning. I was sad, but brave, as I made my way around the hospital.

Papa is much better now. He's getting stronger every day and even ran for and won an election for City Council. I'm so proud of him. Mamaw says he still has good and bad days, whatever that means.

The point is, losing what Papa always meant to me, and having to worry about him, has added to a rather lengthy list of my stressors (that's what Mamaw says for junk that makes me scared and sad).

My mother just got out of prison. I'm happy about that, but she's made so many bad choices, I'm afraid she'll do it again. I don't want to lose her. You wouldn't think a 4-year-old would be concerned about things like that, but I am.

My older sister and younger brother have now been taken from Mommy and me permanently. Am I the only one who finds it hard to understand why? I miss them so much.

At any rate, I could go on about losing my Granny this time last year, and all the cows that got sold I liked,
but you get the point.

Or, you almost do. See, Mamaw figured I needed a friend... someone just mine. She calls her an emotional support pet. I call her Honey.

I love Honey and hug her, and she even does breathing treatments with me when my allergies act up.

I don't know how you feel about dogs and cats, but if you're sad and scared, take a dose of Honey. That's what I do.

The photos were taken by me and are of Kylie and her puppy, Honey. As you can see, the puppy has grown a lot since we got her a month ago. She's a lab mix and seems to be a sweetheart.

Any tips on house training, lol?
