Breath of An Angel

by Helvi2

A child who hadn't reached year two
Was sleeping in her bed
When fire embers touched the house
And thru the rooms smoke spread

As smokey billows swirled and bloomed
The breath of one so young
So struggled for a bit of air
To fill her tiny lungs

As others tried to quell the flames
They heard the baby cry
Her bright eyes stinging as she coughed
A garbled gasp outcry

The life was draining from her limbs
But no-one was in sight
But someone heard her up above
And to her side took flight

She would not let this little one
Just fade away and die
She'd give to her God's own life-breath
With just a simple sigh

No flames would ever touch the child
As long as she was near
This tiny miracle of life
Was something God held dear

The explanation of the day
I clearly do not know
But still my heart is grateful for
The gift that was bestowed

An angel's breath saved this child's life
Till rescue was at hand
My mom was given life that day
From Heaven's own heartland

In thick black smoke a baby breathed
Because an angel stood
And gave the child fresh air to breathe
Beyond her young childhood

I wanted to write a tribute for my mom even though she is no longer with us. Both the image and the poem were created by me........... My mother started life as a blue baby. Her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. This poem reflects the the next chapter in her life. This is one of the many events in my mother's life when she could have been seriously injured or died . This is why I believe in Guardian Angels!........This poem is about a fire that started 2 houses away in the General store, then touched the house next to it, then hit my grandparents house. The smoke was very thick! It was not only hard to see ,it was hard to breathe. Getting out was not easy! As my grandparents tried to save what they could, people were stealing it as fast as they put it out. The damage was so bad my grandparent's house had to be re-built My grandfather was a volunteer fireman for 36 years. I think this was the day he started his journey. :o) helvi
