"Poetry With A Twist"

Chapter 1
Covered

By Karen Cherry

Covered wagons all lined up

The frantic start, it was abrupt.

My aching began at the first jolt

I hung in, I did not revolt.

Still, I felt every pebble and every bump

What can I do for my aching rump?

My husband rides on my lovely horse

I'm stuck here, driving the oxen of course

He is there resting, smoking his pipe

My anger's building my temper is ripe

After making his supper I went to bed

He enjoyed sipping some whisky instead

When he crawled into the wagon intent on some lovin'

With my boots still firmly on I did a fair bit of shovin'

I now ride my beautiful well tempered horse

While he drives the cantankerous oxen of course

Chapter 2
Being Happy At Your Work

By Karen Cherry

On reflection he felt very slighted

He gave and they took it's all been sighted

By others they all knew

Well, at least one or two

And, his small world it needs to be  righted

*************

He needs some vengeance or justice he thought

Did they think that they would never be caught

Just because he is nice

The men never thought twice

Wait till they see the compadres he's bought

*************

One has a distinctly warped little bent

And they were the best ones that he could rent

He wants you to suffer

There won't be a buffer

These are the punishers that he has sent

**************

The second man applies all the best pain

He's untouched I hope that's all very plain

He looks at his list

Then gives you a twist

You might even think that he is insane

***************

The third creature pitches in here and there

But often bows out until you are bare

It's his one little quirk

Though he does like his work

He'll slice you open from here down to there

***************

Austin read this most interesting book

It's about terror, he took a long look

He gave it some thought

And that's why he bought

Those three bad fellers he's got on the hook

****************

These men are all replaceable of course

And there are more of them from the same source

They will do their job well

Or be put in a cell

As the  town sheriff he has no remorse

****************

Chapter 4
Another Fine Mess

By Karen Cherry

The  Swiffer pads won't cut it.

Blood sometimes can get thick.

I didn't mean to kill him.

But, geez., I threw the brick.

Who knew I would have such good aim?

It seemed a cowboy 's trick.

No geriatric aim's so true.

I can't often hit a lick.

************************************

So, he bled like he was trying to paint,

The entire kitchen floor.

He is still giving pain to me,

Leaving me with gore.

I have used up all the towels,

But there must be some more.

As usual  he gives me problems,

But who's keeping score.

*****************************

I found the linen cabinet.

I am saved at last.

It's all cleaned up and sparkling.

 Blood is in the past.

Everything is put up.

His "die" has now been cast.

When the need is very great,

I can and do move fast.

Chapter 5
Backyard bluff

By Karen Cherry

You took my heart and smashed it flat

I wasn't going to take all that

You had your chance to do things right

Instead you staged a big fat fight

Pretending you were the damaged spouse

When you were the lying cheating louse

With all our neighbors choosing sides

Poor Winston has no bonafides

His latest drunken pregnant friend

Puts all discussions to an end

Chapter 6
Bad Boyfriend

By Karen Cherry

Be gone, take all your crummy stuff

I said I'm done, I've had enough

Your endless wants your hungry need

The very evilness you breed

**********************

You said sweet things to pull me in

Oh how I wish we'd never been

So,  just go on your merry way

I have no wish for you to stay

************************

Here's your suitcase, and here's your hat

Your company it falls quite flat

This really needs and should be said

You really were no good in bed

Chapter 7
Bad Endings

By Karen Cherry

Maryanne Fitzwilliams, she had quite a temper

If she was a dog, you'd say she has distemper

But, if she is nice

And, it has happened twice

She'll put you down without even a whimper

****************

When she is really mad you just watch out

If you've been an unbelievable lout

She will extend all your pain

For after all you're to blame

You will have a horrible time there's no doubt

****************

It does not do to let down MaryAnne

Stay away from her if only you can

She looks so awfully sweet

She is tidy and neat

I would watch out though if I were a man

****************

Chapter 8
Change of job

By Karen Cherry

Arlo was an unremarkable thief.

His notoriety, if any, was brief.

He dropped a ming vase

It earned him a case

Since it had belonged to the chief.

He got five but he got out in two.

He went back to the work that he knew.

As he was hauled off to the clink,

He had a big think,

He would have to do something brand new.

The social worker came to his cell,

She said it was time to stop living in hell.

Find different jobs he can do,

Or he will be through.

And he will stay here for a very long spell.

He now writes for a police TV show.

Arlo is good and he rakes in the dough.

His tales are mostly all  true,

Not that hard to do,

Since it is after all a comedy show.

Chapter 9
Buzz Off!

By Karen Cherry

This weekend was just like the rest

I do the work, he's a big giant pest

He tells me his wants

Delivers some taunts

I just go on doing my dead level best

*************************

I trudge along with the bags I carry

Hands in pockets he strolls to the ferry

He never offers to help

The ungrateful whelp

Remind me again, why'd I marry

*******************

As I walk now I hear a light buzz

Gage didn't hear, but he never does

He slaps his bare arm

He's in incredible harm

There's no pen in his pocket, just fuzz

******************

I remember seeing the EPI pen label

He's swelling bad, he doesn't look stable

He fell, he looks kind of dead

I also recall what I said

"Don't forget your EPI pen on the table."

Chapter 10
Dead Calm

By Karen Cherry

You said it was completely safe now.

I disagreed.

You said all trails had been neutralized.

I disagreed.

You said all parties involved were eliminated.

I disagreed.

You said everyone was accounted for.

I disagreed.

You said it was just you and me against the world.

I disagreed.

Chapter 11
Front Page News

By Karen Cherry

Amanda made her mind up and delivered the letter.

But it did not make her feel one single whit better.

She told the whole truth.

A trait due to youth,

But he refuses to admit he ever met her.

But, she also had the tape that she made,

And, by now he is under the blade.

He denied and he lied,

Things she can not abide,

But as a politician, it’s just his stock and trade.

When he took the cash she thought he was a nut.

He started talking so she asked for her cut.

While he was ragging,

She taped all his bragging

The man could not keep his mouth shut.

The news is showing it all evening long.

It’s pretty apparent that he’s in the wrong.

He has earned all the blame.

No matter what he might claim.

But a prison cell is where he belongs.

The End

Chapter 12
Change of venue

By Karen Cherry

These days people can see all that you do.

All “privacy” is now open to view.

No matter how hard you try,

It will not do to be shy.

These days we are transparent me and you.

All crime is harder and harder to plan.

All the cameras and phones, understand?

Eyes, they all are on you,

When you plan jobs to do.

So, stay out of their sharp sight if you can.

My old partner was arrested today.

He thought he had gotten cleanly away.

Two guys with a cell,

Just sent him to hell

He is in for more than an overnight stay.

I think I shall have to give it all up.

Things out there just became more and more tough.

There is nowhere to hide,

You will end up inside.

Now I serve “Starbucks”, would you like a cup?
