I Yearn for True Love

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 1/3/25

I yearn for true love

and die every night

missing it til dawn

I wait each morn in vain

for your romantic poems

of passion and ache

our affair is like a flower

that fades away

in the horizon

I yearn for true love

on sky-high heels

wearing a leather jumpsuit

she dreams

to strut the catwalk

≈♦≈

drenched with shame

and rain

wishing it could cleanse

the stench of a hard life

the wet pavement

reflects a better world

beneath the cobblestones

and puddles remind her

of innocent child games

Chapter 2
The Sleeping Tiger

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:exercise on addiction - presentation and poem by gypsy blue rose (c)

the past drifts along a putrid creek
as sorrow waves goodbye
from the muddy riverbanks

the heart barely remains afloat
carried away by raging rapids
aiming for the immense sea
of a wasted life

raw childhood memories
burn like salt on open wounds
cut by the broken glass
of bottles across a filthy floor
with dirty needles here and there
waiting for the next time

my name is nobody
and I'm an addict

Author Notes fictional free verse - an exercise on addiction

Sleeping Tiger is a saying AA or NA members say, it means that even after an alcoholic or addict stops using he/she/they always have the dormant illness inside.

We The People

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 2/3/25

T h e     O r a n g e     A g e

There was a dumb king named Chump

in the greatest nation among all lands

until he won and ‘We the People” loss

~♦~

He was a big fan of golf courses,

gold, power, bankruptcies,

and anyone who kissed his arse.

~♦~

He was obsessed

with conquering and over-taxing,

countries who once were our allies.

~♦~

Following the example of tyrant dictators

like Omar Al Bashir, Putin, Kim Jong Un,

who laughed at his expense behind his back

~♦~

His Lord Chancellor, Dark Maga Musk

gave him ill advice

and was an avaricious no good scum

hungry for power and crypto cash.

~♦~

The rest of the King’s troupe

were incompetent fools

mostly billionaires or hosts at Fox News.

~♦~

The Kingdom was headed for disaster

while King Chump was drunk with power,

and his imperial subjects

watched their country burn and crumble.

Chapter 5
Deep End of the Sea

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 2/19/25

to see you naked

is to remember

the shore’s smooth sand dunes

as the sentinel reeds stand tall

guarding your beauty and soul

to see you naked

is to understand the rain’s longing

to touch your satin peach skin

and the ocean’s implore

to plunge into the deep end of sea

your belly is a promise of life

your lips are plump, ripe, and sweet

your mother hips move

to the rhythm of whimsical tides

tempting me to leap into your love

Chapter 6
Robin Hood Wanted

By Gypsy Blue Rose

The time has come

King X and his court jester D

have robbed the poor

to gift the avaricious rich.

>⇒

WANTED:

We need a Robin Hood

brave and with excellent aim

an expert archer with bow and arrows

to eliminate hate and division

and stand for truth and justice

>⇒

He must have faith in God,

Jesus would not stand

for giving to the rich

and taking from the poor

He was unquestionably against

the greedy, corrupted, richest on earth

Author Notes
-- Avaricious= is greed of gain; excessively acquisitive especially in seeking to hoard riches

The House of republican Representatives has passed the fiscal budget making huge cuts to benefit the richest billionaires in our country. Medicare, Medicare, Social Security and social security disability insurance will be slashed. Programs that affect the majority of Americans, mostly elders and disable people. One out of five Americans have medicade.

What does it mean for people like me and you? I am disabled and my only source of income is SSID which I paid for in wages throughout my life. I also depend on medicaid Health Care Insurance, without it I can get very sick and die.

70 million retired elders and disabled people receive SSI or SSDI. What is going to happen to them? If Elon and Donald have their way, our economy will collapse. Health care companies would lose a huge part of their income.

70 million SSI and SSDI individuals expend money on health care, housing, food, utilities, clothes, cars, gas, etc. Also, our homeless population would increase in tremendous numbers. How would our communities deal with that? I am not even counting all the fired Federal employees, policemen, teachers, firemen, and VETERANS. Employers will be hurt too.

What is happening to our country? Our freedom means something. The Statue of Liberty used to welcome immigrants from around the world, with open arms. But now Donald Trump is selling "Residency Gold Cards" for five million dollars! One more rip-off along with trump bibles, MAGA hats, t-shirts, Donald Trump collector play cards, alcohol, coins, casinos, a football league, and the list goes on.

Our country and our freedom are up for sale. Trump admitted in an interview in the Oval Office that he would welcome Russians if they had the money to buy the 5 million Golden Card. This corrupted and incompetent man aims to be a king or a dictator like Putin, Hitler, Kim Jong Un, and others. He called Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky a dictator and sided with Putin in his war.

Thank you very much for your excellent review and kind words.

Chapter 7
Where her Spirit Soars

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Death’s black cloak

covers your cold body

lying on the bed at your wake

with jasmine in your hair

it fills my heart with ache

 ≈♦≈

Death's sharp claws

slash my sanity and hope

while I fight valiantly

for memories of you at home

≈♦≈

I will remain by your side

until your ashes take flight

and your soul soars

over lands and sea

but you'll always be in my heart

Oceans of Time

By Gypsy Blue Rose

oceans of time

will not keep us apart

we share the same moon and stars

you’re the warm breeze

playing with my hair

and the ardent sun

that sets my heart aflame

you’re the sultry scent

of golden barley fields

in the summer rain

our hands touch

palm to palm

yours bigger than mine

makes me feel small

but cherished and adored

~ I peacefully rest in your love ~

Chapter 9
The Valley of Unrest

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Dalia sits alone in darkness

one who once was happy

now trembles with uncertainty

and fear of what lies ahead

the president and his men

follow Elon Musk's evil plan

while we struggle

to feed the hungry

and house the  poor

the republicans

have kissed the president's ring

too afraid to stand

for truth, democracy, and justice

40 million poor await their fate

afraid to lose their Medicaid

and social security checks

and Donald Trump doesn’t care

from Dalia's dark empty room

she watches the azure stars

and brilliant moon

beautiful during feast or famine

She prays to her loving God

but wonders if suffering

is unavoidable

some Americans must admit

the truth about their president

guilty of our country's restlessness

headed to the unavoidable precipice

while the world watches in disbelief

what we have become

Author Notes The title, Valley of Unrest, is Edgar Allan Poe's poem He inspires me. Edgar suffered from Chronic Depression.

Free Verse about our country's president's failure to govern our country. America is headed to an economic crash, and people without medical care and possible homelessness for many people who depend on their SSI or SSDI to survive.

The point of view is that of a disabled woman, Dalia, who depends on medication and medical treatment to stay alive. In two weeks, she, and many others, will find out if Elon's Doge will cut-off their social security checks, delate them, or decrease that amount. Also, there will be cuts to Medicaid, the medical care that millions depend on. Elon Musk has access to our personal information, and with that they can manipulate SSI checks. With a lack of income and medical care, she could die. Do you think Trump and Elon Musk will take responsibility for what is to come? The cost of food and other necessities is increasing and the stock market is crashing. The tariff wars are going to throw us into a recession.

Thank you,

Tempestuous Northern Winds

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Brave Soldiers Fight

midst tempestuous winds

over their war-torn

Ukrainian motherland

her arms push away Russia

and her feet are knee-deep

in the Black Sea's

menacing wuthering waves

Mother Nature Dreams of Peace

both countries' cotton fields

waving peace- white scarves

to the passing clouds

their winds shake hands

Prayers

old babusias pray for peace

and winds of change

amidst the serene songs

of divine symphony

Author Notes Wuthering = to blow with a dull roaring sound
Babusia = grandmother in Ukrainian. sound: Bah-boo-syah.
Wave a white flag = symbolizes a universal gesture of peace and surrender.

Chapter 11
My Heart Feels the Rise

By Gypsy Blue Rose

my heart feels the rise
of the flaming sun
with the torturing ache
of an impossible love
we could have had

.
.
every night I'm a prisoner
of your mysterious ways
the way the full moon
caresses your bare skin
and dew shines on your hair
.
.
thousands of stars
shine in your eyes
and your lips await mine ajar
with a taste of sweet wine
I'm drunk with your taste
.
.
by dawn's light
seeds of sadness
grow in my heart
because it's time
to wake up

Author Notes no more holding back
be reckless
share your love
with everyone - Rumi

Chapter 12
Letter from the Ledge

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:fictional poem (suicide theme 'trigger warning) dedicated to Dean Kuch RIP

here I am in the dark

waiting on the ledge

for a sign that never comes

nobody understands

what I feel inside

and how dark is my life

there hasn't been

anyone in my corner

for a long time

I live a useless existence

and I don't have a reason

to go on

I have given it

a lot of thought

and made a decision at last

I freed my bird

and for my cat I found a good home

there's nobody else to let go

I don't have friends or family left

and I'm invisible to the rest

I wonder how long till I'm found

so for whoever finds me

consider this poem

my suicide note

I can't go on

I can't live with this pain

it's too much to bear

but out of darkness

God told me to hold on

and wait for the light

Author Notes Fictional Free Verse Poem inspired lightly by personal experience. I suffer from bipolar disorder with short manic episodes and long depressive episodes. I have been chronically depressed several times in my life, sometimes as long as three years at a time, so I know how it feels. But it's never been as bad as the poem. I have family, friends, and God to help me through. I feel bad for those who don't have anybody in their lives. It's easy to feel like giving up if you don't have a support system. Depression is a dangerous and deceiving illness. It's a chemical imbalance in the brain. At the time, you feel hopeless and in so much pain that suicide seems the only way to go. Luckily, bipolar disorder is treatable, and with the right medication, you can live a normal life. If you are or know of someone dealing with depression, pass on the information below and tell them, "Don't give up, it gets better."

Chapter 13
Spain

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Spain

my faraway land

where I grew up

I left a piece of my heart behind

on lands of olive trees and old vineyards

surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea

 fields of red poppies await

but only my spirits roam

the cobblestone streets

Spanish artists drip passion

spreading the language of love

and fire

painters’ brush strokes

canvas and walls

I feel art in my heart and soul

Author Notes I grew up in Spain, a beautiful country full of history and art culture. I was 16 years old when I moved to America. I'm an American citizen. Although I would like to move back to Spain, especially now, I would never leave my children and grandchildren. I love America, but in some respects, I am stuck in the middle. Many immigrants feel that way.

Chapter 15
Tumultuous Tempest Tyranny

By Gypsy Blue Rose

tumultuous tempest tyranny

rages through continents and seas

breaking boulders with ease

inert stones do not complain

as they are decimated slowly

with global trade winds

earthquakes roar and rage

pushing ally mountains away

and destroying old bonds

as the world watches in horror

 the distruction

of        t a r i f f       wars

Author Notes "When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty." - Thomas Jefferson

Global and Trade are types of winds

Amidst the Unknown

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 4/9/25

let me rest

in your embrace

a sanctuary from my fear

of the unknown

there's a menacing storm rising

in the crimson horizon

that overwhelms my soul

change is never easy

I've been hurt before

I don't want to go back

to the life I left behind

in the long night

thoughts fester in my mind

and I need Your pristine love

to face my life

my mended heart is fragile

I'm broken and I don't belong

because life has been hard

and I'm deeply hurt

be my haven in the storm

with You by my side

I will build a strong new home

maybe good things will come

and I'm not alone

Author Notes Free Verse inspired by Helen's bird poems

I will be moving back to Sacramento after 7 years because housing in Los Angeles is too high. I lived in Sacramento for 19 years; some of the time was happy, but most of it was emotionally devastating. There are positive aspects to moving back, so I need to focus on that. I'll sing you a love song

with the heartstrings of my guitar

I'm tired of living a loveless life

darlin', hold on to me

I'll take you on a wild ride

and you'll be satisfied

my friends say

I'm infatuated and stuck

on your flirtatious

I'm on my knees praying

you got me woozy and wild eye,

bombardier of ambivalence

Chapter 19
One Thousand and One Nights

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:for Dean Kuch RIP

on a chilly night on my terrace

I chit-chatted with the Grim

about inconsequential things

by the light of the moon,

the starless sky was filled

with obscure gloom and doom

his ominous dark nature and garb

captivated me with his alluring charm

of macabre deceiving facade

I read for the Grim Reaper

"One Thousand and One Nights"

to delay my imminent demise

so taken by my gift of gab

that the Reaper released my soul

and said goodnight

 “Till we meet again.”

Author Notes The title comes from a story I read as a teenager, my poem is a different story.

"One Thousand and One Arabian Nights" is a story about King Shahryar. He is shocked to learn that his wife is unfaithful and he has her killed. In his bitterness and grief, he decides that all women are the same, and he begins to marry a succession of virgins only to execute each one the next morning, before she has a chance to dishonor him. Eventually, King Wazir, whose duty it is to provide the victims, cannot find any more virgins. Vizier's daughter offers herself as the next bride. On the night of their marriage, she begins to tell the king a tale, but does not end it. The king, curious about how the story ends, is thus forced to postpone her execution to hear the conclusion. And that is the way Vizier's daughter is pardoned because King Shahryar falls in love with her and lives the rest of their lives happily ever after.

Chapter 28
She Covers her Face in Shame

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 7/6/25

The Statue of Liberty

covers her face in shame

no longer able to say,

“Give me your tired,

your poor,

your huddled masses

yearning to breathe free.”

Author Notes Once, we were a beloved country around the world, but not anymore.

"The New Colossus" is a sonnet by American poet Emma Lazarus (1849-1887). She wrote the poem in 1883 to raise money for the construction of a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty.

Complete Poem:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuge of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

~ Life Finds A Way ~

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 7/12/25

Life Finds A Way

all life on Earth

sing songs of gratitude

for warm sunny days

crisp morning air

clear cool stream water

fresh tasty food

safe shelter

and peaceful sleep

by the light of the silver moon

Author Notes "Life Finds a Way" - Jurassic Park, a line of dialogue that holds hope on one side and caution on the other.

The Survival Rule of Three:

- 3 Minutes without air
- 3 Hours without shelter in extreme conditions
- 3 Days without water
- 3 Weeks without food

Humans require several fundamental needs to survive, which can be categorized into physiological and psychological needs.

PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS:

- Air: Oxygen is essential for cellular respiration.
- Water: Hydration is crucial for bodily functions; humans can survive only a few days without it.
- Food: Nutrients provide energy and support bodily functions; survival without food typically lasts a few weeks.
- Shelter: Protection from environmental elements is necessary for safety and health.
-Sleep: Rest is vital for physical and mental recovery.

PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS:

- Safety: Security from physical and emotional harm is important for well-being.
- Social Connections: Relationships and community support contribute to mental health.
- Self-esteem: A sense of self-worth and accomplishment is important for motivation and mental health.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
:
- Health Care: Access to medical care is important for maintaining physical health.
- Environmental Factors: Clean air, water, and a stable climate are essential for long-term survival.

These needs are interconnected, and neglecting any can impact overall health and survival.

Chapter 31
Wandering in Fields of Dreams

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright

I wandered across the roads of dreams
riding shotgun in a hearse with Grim.

On our journey, we found spooky things:

-ghosts playing hopscotch in vacant streets
-zombies dancing in the dead of night

I shed dew tears for the dreadful dead
we travelled until the dream's dead-end

Author Notes free verse with 9 syllables per line and 7 lines

-- RIDING SHOTGUN: the practice of sitting alongside the driver in a moving vehicle. -- ORIGIN: In the 1900s, the term referred to the bodyguard who rode alongside a stagecoach driver, armed with a shotgun to deter bandits.
-- HOPSCOTCH = a child's game

Inspired by Emily Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for death" 1830 - 1886

Because I could not stop for Death
He kindly stopped for me
The Carriage held but just Ourselves
And Immortality.
We slowly drove He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility
We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess in the Ring
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain
We passed the Setting Sun
Or rather He passed us
The Dews drew quivering and chill
For only Gossamer, my Gown
My Tippet only Tulle
We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground
The Roof was scarcely visible
The Cornice in the Ground
Since then tis Centuries and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses Heads
Were toward Eternity

Chapter 38
~ What Will I Do? ~

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:meaning of the poem in author notes

what will I do?

I’m cursed to be

the keeper of despair

and sadness in his eyes

with the dismal night

that covers his grave

with a black veil of starless sky

on Spanish green pastures

covered with scattered olive trees

and insane man’s windmills

I’ll gather nests and boughs

braided with his soul’s dusk

and my broken heart

without his midnight eyes

now covered with coins

to pay the ferryman

What will I do?

Author Notes My Free Verse expresses the grief of someone who lost her lover. The reference to the "insane man's windmills" is inspired by the Spanish novel, Don Quijote De La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes.

Coins for the dead are an ancient form of respect for the dead. The practice began in ancient times when people believed in folklore. The dead needed coins to pay a ferryman to cross the river Styx, which separates the worlds of the living and the dead.

Chapter 40
Where Am I

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:HORROR STORY if you scare easily, skip this post

Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of violence.

A smell of freshly dug soil

permeates my cramped space.

Where am I? What's this place?

I don’t know where I am,

but it’s tight, dark, and damp.

Something slimy

just crawled on my face,

my feet, and my legs!

I lie in darkness

  and all I can do

is use my hands and feet.

I'm in a box!

A horrifying thought

invades my mind,

I'm inside a coffin!

I panic, scream, and scratch

until my throat is sore

and my nails are ripped off.

I'm eight feet under

nobody will hear my cries,

no one is coming for me.

I have been buried alive!

Author Notes Premature burial can lead to death through the following: asphyxiation, dehydration, starvation, or (in cold climates) hypothermia. The medical term for the fear of being buried alive is taphophobia.

In 1885, a man was found turned over onto its front inside the coffin, with much of his hair pulled out and scratch marks all over his body. In 1886, a girl's body was described as being found with the knees tucked up under the body, and her burial shroud "torn into shreds".

A woman who was prematurely buried in 1915 after reportedly suffering a bout of epilepsy was exhumed a few minutes later after her sister asked to see her body one more time. The shock of her survival resulted in several ministers falling into her grave and the mourners fleeing in terror.

SAFETY COFFINS were devised to prevent premature burial. The fear of being buried alive peaked during the cholera epidemics of the 19th century.

Edgar Allan Poe wrote several books on the subject. "The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Cask of Amontillado", and "The Premature Burial", were published in 1844.

The first recorded safety coffin was constructed on the orders of Duke Ferdinand in 1792. He had a window installed to allow light and air.

Pessler, a German priest, suggested in 1798 that all coffins have a tube inserted from which a cord would run to the church bells.

Pessler's colleague, Pastor Beck, suggested that coffins should have a small trumpet-like tube attached. Each day the local priest could check the smell of putrefaction of the corpse by sniffing the odours emanating from the tube. The saying (saved by the bell) came from this safety burial.

Dr. Adolf Gutsmuth was buried alive several times to demonstrate the SAFETY COFFIN of his own design. in 1822, he stayed underground for several hours and even ate a meal of soup, bratwurst, marzipan, sauerkraut, beer, and torte for dessert, delivered to him through the coffin's feeding tube.

Despite the fear of burial while still alive, there are no documented cases of anybody being saved by a safety coffin.

Author Notes Tanka is a Japanese poem created in the 6th century with 31 syllables arranged in five lines: 5/7/5/7/7. An English tanka is composed of five phrases in five lines, grammatically connected. The five phrases must be cohesive; they shouldn't sound like a list. The fifth line should be the strongest line, similar to a haiku's satori.
PIVOT LINES are often a feature of English Tanka, but it's not necessary. A pivot line, usually line 3, connects the top and bottom parts of the tanka (top = 1st and 2nd lines) with (bottom = 4th and 5th lines), introducing ambiguity and resonance into the poem.
EXAMPLE:
the brief cloud of snow
as an axe strikes this oak -
a staggering blow
after his diagnosis
I can't hear the doctor's voice

Note (the blow of an ex) in lines 1 and 2, and how it connects with lines 4 and 5 (the blow of bad news).

Fallow Fields

By Gypsy Blue Rose

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 9/16/25

Their blood, sweat, and tears

irrigates our fertile fields

where tired peasants care for our land

with their rough, wounded hands

to feed their family here and abroad

planting seeds of love, soul, and dreams

to build a good, decent life.

The sizzling sun burns and dries

as their rough hands care for their kin.

They fill the produce aisles for us

in our grocery stores and restaurants

Now they are hunted like vermin

breaking families apart.

Their broken dreams scattered

amidst uncultivated fallow fields.

ONCE

The donkey and the elephant

and respected their boundaries.

NOWDAYS

The donkey and the elephant

   THE TRUTH IS

Animals are more alike than not

they all breathe the same air,

eat food, drink water, and nap.

UNTIL

 They accept and cherish

their differences;

they'll never win. the fight

Author Notes As of October 2025, the U.S. government is in the midst of a shutdown caused by an inability to pass spending bills on time.

The donkey and elephant have represented the Democratic and Republican Parties since the 1800s.

The Democrats' association with the donkey began during the 1828 campaign of Democrat Andrew Jackson, who ran on a populist platform, "by the people, for the people," and using a slogan of "We the People Rule". Jackson's opponents referred to him as a jackass (donkey). Much to their chagrin, Jackson incorporated the jackass into his campaign posters.

Republicans' earliest connection of the elephant to the Republican Party was an illustration in an 1864 Abraham Lincoln presidential campaign. During the Civil War, seeing the elephant was slang for experiencing combat firsthand.

Author Note:Presentation and Poem by Gypsy Blue Rose (c) copyright 11/5/25

BE STILL

let time wash over you

and onto the river of life

forget the suffering

you reside in the house of God

BE STILL

Author Notes "Be still" is a command to stop striving, relax, and surrender, often used in a spiritual context. In the Bible, particularly Psalm 46:10, it carries a deeper meaning of ceasing your own efforts to know and trust in God, who is sovereign and in control. This concept also appears in secular mindfulness, encouraging a quiet pause to reflect, de-stress, and listen to one's inner thoughts or a higher power.

Psalm 46:10
He says, "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
